Two terrorists of Lashkar-e-Tayiba (LeT), one of them a Pakistani, were killed in an encounter with security forces on Wednesday in the thickly populated Lal Chowk area of Anantnag in south Kashmir.

A policeman and a civilian were injured in clashes that broke out in the area as miscreants indulged in stone pelting in a bid to divert attention of security forces and enable the holed terrorists escape from there.

In another incident, a CRPF jawan was injured when terrorists tossed a grenade at the police picket outside the post office at Pulwama. Exchange of fire between soldiers of the Army and a group of terrorists trying to infiltrate into India was reported in the Keran sector of North Kashmir.

Police said that one of the terrorist killed in the Anantnag encounter has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar of Khudwani in Kulgam. He was involved in a series of terror incidents.

The J&K DGP SP Vaid said that bodies of two terrorists and their guns have been recovered from the encounter site.

Police said that a joint patrol of Army, CRPF and J&K Police in the early hours of morning launched searches at Lal Chowk area in Anantnag after credible leads about presence of terrorists inside a house.

As the security forces advanced towards the suspected house, the terrorists fired at the security forces, which was retaliated resulting in an encounter in which both terrorists were eliminated. Besides, no collateral damage occurred during the encounter.

Restrictions were imposed in Anantnag town as a precautionary measure, all entry and exit points to the town were blocked with barricades. A police personnel identified as Bashir Ahmad was injured during the encounter and shifted to district hospital for treatment.

A civilian Identified as Haris Ahmad Dar of New Qazi Bagh, Aanntnag, was injured during clashes in the town.

Train and internet services have been suspended as a precautionary measure.
