The Kozhikode City Police, on Tuesday, arrested two more accused in drug-and-rape case of a 16-year-old girl, who had run away from home. The duo are identified as Muhammed Shamim and Muhammed Rayees, both from Kasaragod.
Earlier on Monday, two accused, Mohammed Salih and Shabir Ali, were arrested in the case. The police said the survivor, a native of Perinthalmanna of the Malappuram district was taken to a flat in Panthirankavu and raped.
The girl, who left home on December 20 after a quarrel with her parents, boarded a bus and headed straight to Kozhikode city. The next morning, she met the accused, Muhammed Shameem and Muhammed Rayees, at the beach. They took the girl to the flat of their friends on the pretext of buying her food. There, the main accused, Muhammed Salih and Shabir Ali, natives of Puthupady, drugged the girl before raping her.
After committing the crime, Muhammed Shameem and Muhammed Rayees took the girl to the Kozhikode beach and dropped her there on 22nd midnight. A women’s police team found the girl while patrolling. After the girl disclosed her ordeal, an investigation was launched by the police to track down the culprits.
Based on the information provided by the girl, the police identified the flat and arrested the main accused, Mohammed Salih and Shabir Ali on Monday. Salih is an accused in a case of kidnapping and murder of Irshad, a native of Pantirikara, in connection with gold smuggling.
Based on the information received from them, Mohammed Shameem and Mohammed Rayees were arrested on Tuesday. The duo, who had come to Kozhikode in search of work, told the police that they had handed the girl to the main accused in exchange for money.
After handing over the girl to her relatives, the police are investigating to find out if more people are involved in the incident.
