Police have made a major breakthrough in the recent triple murder in Ganganouli village, identifying two minor boys as the perpetrators. The suspects, aged 15 and 16, were students at a local religious institution and have been taken into custody, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The victims, the wife of a cleric and their two young daughters, were found dead inside a room within a mosque complex in the Doghat police station area on Saturday. At the time of the incident, the cleric was out of town for a meeting in Deoband.
According to Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Rai, the minors, who regularly attended the mosque for religious studies, had harbored personal grievances due to strict discipline and scolding. Investigators said this resentment prompted them to plan the attack when they learned the teacher was away.
On the day of the incident, the boys reportedly arrived at the mosque around midday and used a construction tool to carry out the assault, killing all three victims.
The case came to light when local residents alerted authorities after discovering the bodies. CCTV footage from the mosque, though partially disabled during the attack, showed one of the boys turning off the cameras, raising suspicion. Based on this and other technical evidence, police questioned the suspects, who later confessed to their involvement.
The weapon used in the attack has been recovered, and both juveniles are now in legal custody. Due to their age, further proceedings will be carried out as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
