SC asks states/UTs to decide on plea seeking to conduct yatras on poll awareness
The bench was told that such orders prohibit all kinds of assemblies, meetings and demonstrations during the duration of elections.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has said that two other kinds of talaq in the Muslim community were also a challenge to gender justice and equality.
“Greater clarity today. Only instant triple talaq is illegal. Other two kinds are also a challenge to gender justice and gender quality,” he said in a tweet.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court struck down the practice of instant triple talaq practised by Muslim men to divorce wives as violative of the Constitution, arbitrary and void in law.
