Two hardcore criminals, who had sustained bullet injuries in an encounter with Baraut police on Sarai road on Friday night, have been arrested. Two police personnel, including a sub-inspector, have also sustained injuries.

All four of them were taken to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment. According to the reports they are out of danger.

The arrested criminals have been identified as Varun Luhari and Jayant alias Golu, wanted in several cases of serious offences, including murder and extortion.

The encounter took place post-midnight on Friday when the cops on duty asked two suspicious looking persons on a motorcycle to stop for checking at Sarai road, Baraut. But instead of stopping, they opened fire at the cops and fled. The police chased them and caught them following an encounter.

SP Baghpat Shailesh Kumar Pandey said that the police have recovered a 9 mm pistol, a country-made pistol, and a motorcycle from the possession of the criminals.

Varun Luhari has 16 cases of murder, extortion, loot, and other heinous crimes registered against him while Jayant was wanted in 8 criminal cases, said the SP.
