Two dead after truck rams into crowd in MP’s Indore

Two people were killed after a truck, driven by an inebriated driver, lost control and rammed into a crowd at Ganpati Square in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The accident site falls under the Malharganj Police Station limits.

In the accident on Monday, the truck burst into flames immediately after the crash, sparking panic. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, while the injured were shifted to hospitals for treatment.

Police have arrested the driver and launched efforts to trace the truck’s owner. “The driver was heavily drunk and lost control of the vehicle. A bike was dragged under the truck, leading to the fire. Two people have died so far. The driver is in custody and has been sent for medical examination,” said DCP Zone-1 Krishna Lalchandani.

The Indore Collector’s Office said on X that medical arrangements have been ensured for the victims on the instructions of Collector Shivam Verma.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed condolences to the bereaved families and directed the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to inspect the site and conduct a preliminary inquiry. “I have also ordered an investigation into how heavy vehicles entered the city before 11 PM,” he said in a post on X.

In another fatal crash in the national capital, a BMW rammed into a motorcycle at Dhaula Kuan, killing a Finance Ministry official. The victim was riding the bike with his wife riding pillion when the luxury car, driven rashly by a woman, collided with them, leaving the latter’s vehicle damaged.
