Popular singer Papon courted controversy after forcibly kissing a minor girl. A video, which was shared on the singer’s Facebook page, shows Papon grabbing the girl’s face and kissing her.

A complaint has been filed against the singer, who is a reality show judge, accusing him of sexually assaulting a girl. Runa Bhuyan, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed a complaint with National Commission for Protection of Child Rights against Papon. In the video which was posted on Facebook, he could be seen applying colour to the girl and kissing her inappropriately.

He has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) as it is a case of assaulting a minor girl. This incident happened during a Holi celebration with the reality show contestants and the victim was a girl Papon was mentoring at that time.

While the incident has sent shock waves in the entire country, the child’s father termed the incident “a moment of affection” saying the singer is a “father figure” to his daughter.

Disgusted at Papon’s action, Micro-blogging website Twitter was flooded with tweets criticising Papon.

Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy also took to twitter and wrote: “Paapi Papon can be prosecuted for rape. Under POCSO, even touching an under 18 year girl is rape.”
