While nearly every major anti-BJP party came together for the no-confidence motion in the Parliament on Friday, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) didn’t extend its support.

Led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, TRS ruled out its support describing the move as a “political gimmick”.

The motion gained momentum as N Chandrababu Naidu led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) announced its decision to part ways from the NDA early on Friday morning.

TDP joined its rival YSR Congress Party and other parties such as Congress, AIMIM, TMC, Biju Janata Dal, CPM and others in support of the motion against the NDA.

Though TRS didn’t support the motion, it said that it supports the demand for the special category status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh.

“No question (of supporting the no-confidence motion). It is just a political gimmick. Can they muster 50 percent of the House (to win the motion)?” TRS parliamentary party leader and secretary general K Keshava Rao said.

On Friday, Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, tweeted that he “waited” till Thursday before taking the decision to exit the alliance. He also asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not giving time to the House.

“If the Allies are fighting in both houses, can not the Prime Minister give an hour’s time?” he asked.

Leaders from the Opposition parties had on Friday signed a motion of no-confidence. It was however not taken up in the Lok Sabha due to the proceedings getting repeatedly disrupted leading to the lower house getting adjourned for the day.
