Tributes paid to two soldiers killed in J-K attack

Army on Sunday paid befitting tributes to two of its soldiers who lost their lives in a terrorist attack on a convoy in Qazigund on Saturday. One of these soldiers was from Midnapur in West Bengal.

In a solemn ceremony at the Badami Bagh Cantonement, Srinagar, many senior officials from other security forces and civil administration, including DGP SP Vaid, joined Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu and others in paying homage to the martyrs.

Midnapur’s Naik Dipak Kumar Maity, 43, had joined the Army in 1997 and is survived by his wife Rikta and a 13-year-old daughter.

Coming from Thiruvannamalai in Tamilnadu, the young martyr Gunner (Operator) Manivannan G was only 25 and had donned the uniform in 2013.  He is survived by his parents.

The mortal remains of the martyrs were flown to their native places.
