Tourists have been barred from entering Nepal as tensions continue to disrupt normal life in the Himalayan nation.

Authorities have suspended tourism activities, with the industry effectively shut down, while traffic across key border points remains heavily restricted.

Reports from Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh confirmed that although cargo vehicles are being allowed to cross into Nepal, entry for tourist vehicles has been completely banned. “The Nepal administration has clarified that tourism activities across the border will be completely closed for the time being,” sources at the Sonauli border said on Tuesday.

Officials said that the Nepal government has imposed strict measures to maintain security, including an indefinite curfew in Rupandehi and other border districts thus prohibiting processions, rallies, or gatherings of more than five people, aimed at preventing any escalation of unrest.

On the Indian side, security agencies are on high alert. Border posts in Maharajganj district are conducting thorough checks on every person crossing into India.Tourists arriving from Nepal and individuals engaged in suspicious activities are being closely monitored.

The sudden restrictions have left many travelers stranded. An Indian tourist stranded at the border said, “the prevailing situation has created anxiety among tourists.”

The cross-border movement had already slowed in recent days, with most people avoiding travel due to uncertainty and safety concerns.

While the restoration of internet services and social media in Nepal has provided some relief. However, authorities cautioned that it could take time before peace and normalcy are fully restored, given the fragile security situation.
