Signs are not good over Congress view on inheritance tax: Rajnath Singh
Singh was addressing an election rally in Lakhimpur Kheri in support of the BJP candidate and Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni.
A day after three MLAs and more than 50 Municipal Councillors of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) joined the BJP in New Delhi, BJP sources, on Wednesday, claimed that six more TMC MLAs and a few former MPs are likely to join the saffron camp in a few days.
“Six TMC MLAs are likely to join us soon. Many more councillors of various municipalities are also in line. Just wait and watch,” a senior BJP leader said on condition of anonymity, adding that a few former MPs of Mamata Banerjee’s party are in touch with the BJP.
“They have expressed their desire to join the BJP in its fight against the misrule of the TMC,” said the BJP leader, adding that of the six MLAs, four are from south Bengal and two from north Bengal.

On Tuesday, Subhrangshu Roy, the TMC MLA from Bijpur in North 24-Parganas district and the son of senior BJP leader Mukul Roy, had joined the BJP along with several other MLAs and councillors.
Arjun Singh, BJP’s newly-elected MP from Barrackpore, who left the TMC after being denied ticket from the Barrackpore constituency, has seemingly played a key role in engineering the defections.
Trinamool Congress MLA Manirul Islam, Gadadhar Hazra, Mohd Asif Iqbal and Nimai Das joined the BJP in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The BJP has vehemently denied the allegations levelled by the Trinamool Congress of indulging in horse-trading.
“The allegation is completely baseless. If someone wants to join BJP and fight against TMC’s misrule, how can we stop it? And TMC leaders should be the last person to talk about horse trading, when TMC poached on Congress and CPI (M) MLAs in last few years, what was that? Is it not horse trading?” said BJP leader Mukul Roy.
