Three people were killed and four others injured after a speeding car collided with another vehicle near the Leprosy intersection ahead of the New Yamuna Bridge in the Naini police station area of Prayagraj at around 10 am on Thursday.
The accident involved a Maruti Ertiga and an SUV. Several passengers, including the drivers of both vehicles, sustained serious injuries, while three persons died on the spot.
All the injured were rushed to Bailey Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The accident triggered chaos in the area, with a large number of passersby gathering at the scene. Police and rescue teams quickly reached the spot and launched relief operations.
The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination after the injured were shifted to hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the collision was so severe that the Ertiga was completely mangled, with its front portion extensively damaged. The driver reportedly had to break through the vehicle’s door to escape. The SUV overturned on the road following the impact.
Police said both vehicles were allegedly travelling at high speed at the time of the accident.
