A wedding celebration turned into tragedy after a violent altercation led a young man to repeatedly run his car over guests, killing three and injuring two, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place at the ZS Palace Guest House on Kadar Ganj Road, where the wedding of Mulayam Singh—district vice president of the Samajwadi Party’s Youth Brigade and resident of Nagla Mansha, Ganjdundwara—was being held on Wednesday night. He was marrying Diksha Yadav of Kaimganj, Farrukhabad.

According to police, the groom’s cousin brother-in-law, Kaushal Yadav, a resident of Etah, arrived at the wedding with his father, Ramchandra.

Kaushal had been dancing with other guests when the groom’s family shut off the DJ around 3 am on Thursday. After the wedding rituals had concluded. Kaushal allegedly demanded that the music be turned on again, leading to a dispute with the groom’s relatives.
Angry and intoxicated, Kaushal left the venue with his father and two companions. When family members followed them outside to calm the situation, another argument broke out. Enraged, Kaushal got into a car, suddenly accelerated, and drove straight into a group of baraatis standing outside.

He allegedly ran over five people, including the groom’s uncle, great-uncle, and maternal uncle.

Witnesses reported that Kaushal then reversed the car and ran over the victims twice before fleeing the scene with his father.
The injured were rushed to the Ganjdundwara CHC and later referred to the district hospital in Kasganj. Three victims—Suresh Chandra (55), Girish Chandra (48), and Brijesh (42)—were declared dead. Two others sustained serious injuries.

The tragedy plunged the wedding celebration into mourning. The groom and bride broke down as news of the deaths spread, and villagers gathered at the venue in shock. All three deceased were farmers and primary earners for their families.
Police have launched a manhunt for Kaushal.

“A dispute over the DJ led to the violence. Three people have died. Teams have been deployed to arrest the accused, and he will be apprehended soon,” said Kotwali in-charge Bhojraj Awasthi.

Local MLA Nadira Sultan was also present at the wedding when the incident occurred.
