Punjab Police has claimed a breakthrough against organised crime after dismantling a gangster module allegedly operating under the direction of foreign-based handlers. In a joint operation, the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, and Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, working in coordination with a central agency, arrested three alleged operatives and recovered three sophisticated foreign-made pistols along with ammunition.
According to police, the operation exposed a network believed to be working on behalf of gangsters based abroad who are suspected of orchestrating gang rivalries, extortion activities, and other criminal operations in Punjab. An FIR has been registered at the SSOC police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway.
Preliminary findings suggest that the arrested individuals were allegedly acting on instructions received from foreign-based handlers. Investigators believe the accused were involved in transporting weapon consignments and facilitating criminal activities across different parts of the state. Police suspect the network played a role in strengthening the operational capabilities of organised crime groups active in Punjab.
Officials said the probe has also revealed links between the arrested suspects and a murder case registered under the Amritsar Commissionerate Police, as well as an attempted murder case reported in Batala. These findings indicate that the network may have been involved not only in illegal arms movement but also in serious violent crimes.
In a statement, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the action represented a significant success in the ongoing campaign against organised crime and gangster networks. He stated that the joint operation had successfully exposed a module connected to foreign-based handlers and resulted in the arrest of three operatives along with the seizure of advanced foreign-manufactured weapons and ammunition.
The DGP said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had been working under the directions of overseas gangsters involved in gang wars, extortion, and other disruptive activities in the state. He added that the suspects were allegedly being used to transport weapons and execute criminal assignments on behalf of their handlers.
Police teams are now working to identify the entire network, including local associates, logistics providers, and overseas controllers linked to the module. Investigators are also examining the group’s previous criminal activities and possible involvement in other cases.
Punjab Police said efforts are underway to completely dismantle the organised crime syndicate and trace all individuals connected to the operation. The force reiterated its commitment to taking firm action against gangster networks, organised crime groups, and anti-social elements to maintain peace, public safety, and security across the state.
