Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has emphasized on the teachings of Lord Buddha, saying they are very relevant in today’s context.

He inaugurated on Sunday and visited the Bodhichitta exhibition at the National Kalmykia Republican Museum in Elista, Republic of Kalmykia, Russia. Maurya also addressed the revered monks at the Troitskoye Khurul Monastery there and presented a valuable Kanjur in Mongolian to the monastery’s head as a symbol of the spirit of Lord Buddha’s heritage.

On this occasion, a historic agreement was reached between Buddhists from India and Russia, signing a cooperation agreement between the Central Spiritual Administration of Kalmyk Buddhists and the International Buddhist Confederation.

This agreement strengthens the enduring cultural and spiritual ties between India and Russia and will significantly contribute to the shared pursuit of global harmony and a compassionate world by becoming a bridge of dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.

The Deputy Chief Minister and the delegation held a meeting with prominent figures from Kalmykia, highlighting the international relevance and importance of the messages and teachings of Lord Buddha.

“Lord Buddha’s teachings of compassion, kindness, and forgiveness are very relevant even in today’s context,” he said, adding that surrendering to Buddha brings peace, progress, and spiritual advancement.

Maurya stated that it appears that the number of Lord Buddha’s followers will increase worldwide, because the path to peace, progress, forgiveness, and spiritual progress lies in the teachings, messages, and life of Lord Buddha.

Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar discussed this unique cultural event, which further strengthens India-Russia ties through Buddhism. He underscored the spiritual connection between India and the Russian regions of Kalmykia, Buryatia, and Tuva, where Buddhism is the predominant faith. This event is proving to be an important milestone in further deepening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
