The deteriorating law and order and rising crime in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections have given the opposition fresh ammo to attack the state’s NDA government. They said that there is fear in every street, and restlessness in every home. The state government is not capable of controlling the situation.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bihar on 18 July, the opposition has demanded his intervention.

Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Monday said that the law and order situation in Bihar has become horrifying. He stated that incidents such as murders of teachers, engineers, doctors, lawyers, businessmen, and contractors, as well as gang rapes of young girls, are taking place.

The RJD leader questioned the Prime Minister’s silence and said, “After taking votes, it is the Prime Minister’s responsibility to ensure the safety of the people.”

He further added that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is no longer able to handle Bihar, and the government is being run through remote control.

“Since the BJP is running the government, it must take the responsibility as well,” he said.

The Congress party also attacked the government over law and order issues. The party accused the state government of turning unemployed youth into murderers and claimed that the NDA government is more focused on saving the Chief Minister’s chair.

In this context, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi once again targeted the Nitish-BJP government today, tweeting a pointed question: “How long will the JD(U)-BJP government in Bihar continue to turn the youth into criminals by subjecting them to the agony of unemployment, and how long will the cycle of murders go on?”

Rahul Gandhi reiterated, “I repeat once again — this time the vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar.”

Now, in addition to Congress and the INDIA alliance, even some constituents of the NDA at the state and central levels have started criticising the Bihar government over crime.
