Amid seat-sharing tussle among the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan allies, Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh on Sunday said that the distribution of seats among the alliance partners will be finalised after the Congress Working Committee meeting.
“It will happen quickly after CWC. There is no difficulty, all parties are well-assured…,” the Congress MP said.
On the question of CM face, he endorsed RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as the biggest contender for the post.
“Tejashwi Yadav is the biggest face for CM…,” he said, adding, “The priority is to defeat the BJP and Nitish Kumar’s alliance.”
His remark came amid reports of differences among the Mahagathbandhan constituents, mainly the Congress and the RJD, over seat-sharing.
Speaking about the issue, Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI(ML) General Secretary, expressed the hope that the Congress may adopt a more realistic approach.
He said things got delayed due to the Opposition’s protest over the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll and that the seat-sharing will be finalised by the end of this month.
Buoyed by the positive public response to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, the Congress reportedly wants around 70 seats. However, the RJD is apparently not happy with the demand, as the Congress party had contested 70 seats in 2020 but could win only 19.
