Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav has come out strongly in defence of his sister, Rohini Acharya, slamming what he called “baseless accusations” and attempts to portray a rift within the RJD’s first family with malicious intent.
Breaking his silence over the controversy, the RJD leader said Rohini had made significant sacrifices for the family and the party, including donating her kidney to their father, Lalu Prasad Yadav. He emphasised that she had never sought a party ticket or political position, and any attempt to malign her image was deeply shameful and unacceptable.
“Rohini Di is my elder sister. She raised me, nurtured me, and helped shape who I am today. Her sacrifice is incomparable. Very few people in today’s world would donate a kidney to a family member. It was the people of Chhapra who wanted her to contest from there, and Lalu Ji honoured the wishes of the people of Saran by giving her the ticket,” he said.
“She never had any personal ambition, neither for herself nor for anyone else,” he added.
Tejashwi also launched a scathing attack on Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, accusing him of making disrespectful remarks about the relationship between Lalu Prasad and his daughter. “Even after such a huge sacrifice, Samrat Choudhary alleged that Lalu Ji gave his daughter a ticket in return for a kidney. Making such statements about a father-daughter relationship reflects the BJP’s culture. From the beginning, Rohini Di has focused only on strengthening the party and supporting me,” he said.
He also criticised online trolls and BJP supporters, saying they regularly post abusive comments targeting him, Lalu Prasad, and other members of the family. “What these people are doing now is intolerable. Such attacks on someone’s mother or sister cannot be accepted under any circumstances,” he added.
The political row erupted recently after Rohini Acharya posted a series of strong messages on social media platform X, countering rumours and defending her integrity.
She said, “All the rumours spread against me by trolls, miscreants, paid media, and those with malicious intentions of usurping the party are baseless and part of a smear campaign aimed at damaging my image. I have never had any political ambitions in the past, nor do I have any now, nor will I ever have any.”
“I have fulfilled my duty as a daughter and sister, and I will continue to do so. I have no craving for any position. For me, self-respect is paramount,” she added.
In another post, she challenged her critics to prove that she had ever sought a political position for herself or anyone else, or to prove that the kidney donation was false, failing which, they should apologise publicly.
