In a dramatic reshaping of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single largest party with leads in 106 seats, according to the Election Commission of India trends.
The ruling DMK suffered a major blow with leads in just 42 seats. The AIADMK also regained some lost ground as the party was ahead in 64 seats in trends.
With DMK slipping to third place, several heavyweights of the party, including Chief Minister MK Stalin, were trailing as the counting of votes was underway.
Vijay was leading in both seats he contested, while Udhayanidhi Stalin, another DMK heavyweight, was in a neck-and-neck contest with TVK’s Selvam D.
Below are the latest trends in key constituencies of Tamil Nadu
Kolathur: Chief Minister MK Stalin is trailing in his stronghold after the 7th round of counting. VS Babu of the TVK was ahead of the DMK chief with a significant margin of 5,454 votes, according to Election Commission of India data.
Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni: Tamil Nadu Deputy CM and MK Stalin’s son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, has taken a narrow lead of 300 votes against TVK candidate Selvam D in a neck-and-neck contest after the 4th round of counting. He was trailing in the first three rounds.
Tiruchirappalli East: Joseph Vijay, the Chief of TVK, is leading with a margin of 5,286 against DMK leader S Inigo Irudayaraj. G Rajasekaran of AIADMK is a distant third.
Perambur: In his second constituency, TVK chief Vijay is currently leading with a margin of 9,038 votes after 4 rounds of counting. RD Shekar of DMK is second-placed and M Thilagabama of PMK is third.
Edappadi: Former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is leading with a massive margin of 21,155 votes against Independent candidate Premkumar K. DMK’s Kasi C is a distant third in Edappadi.
Bodinayakkanur: Panneerselvam, who switched to the DMK before polls, is leading in Bodinayakkanur with a margin of 2,933 votes. TVK’s Prakash S is a close second.
Coimbatore North: V Sampathkumar of TVK is narrowly ahead of DMK’s Durai Snethamil Slevan. BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan was trailing in third place.
