According to several exit polls, the DMK-Congress alliance is projected to retain power in the state influenced by Dravidian model of politics for the last five decades.
The AIADMK, which lost its ground significantly following the demise of former Chief Minister Jayalalitha, contested the polls in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is desperately hoping to make inroads into the south Indian state it has never directly ruled.
The contest was supposed to be a direct contest between the alliances of the DMK-Congress and the AIADMK-BJP. However, the entry of actor-politician Vijay”s TVK have made it a triangular contest with some exit polls predicted a blockbuster debut for the party.
According to Axis My India exit poll, TVK could secure more than 100 seats. Today’s Chanakya exit poll also predicted a strong debut for TVK with 63 seats.
