West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has promised jobs to the family members of those killed during the post-poll violence after the 2021 Assembly elections in the state.

Adhikari on Tuesday, May 19, addressed a campaign rally in the Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district, which is all set to go for repolling on May 21.

Besides promising to grant jobs to the family members of those killed in 2021 post-poll violence, Adhikari said he will also take responsibility for the party workers who otherwise became victims of post-violence in the state, IANS reported.

He has directed the BJP candidate from Falta, Debangshu Panda, to send him the list of party activists in the Assembly segment, who were victims of atrocities by activists of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

“On the basis of the list, all sorts of assistance will be provided to the victims. Your Chief Minister will always be there for you,” Adhikari said.

As per the BJP’s calculations, 321 party workers were killed in the post-poll violence in West Bengal after the 2021 Assembly polls.

Notably, voting in Falta was held during the second phase of the recently concluded 2026 Assembly elections on April 29. However, several complaints of alleged electoral malpractices later emerged from the region. It was stated that at multiple polling booths, the EVM buttons corresponding to the names and symbols of BJP candidates were allegedly covered with white tape.

Later on, special poll observer Subrata Gupta, who is now serving as adviser to the Chief Minister, personally visited Falta and conducted an inquiry into the allegations.

On his findings, the Election Commission later ordered repolling across the entire Falta Assembly constituency. After the repolling on May 21, the results will come out on May 24.

On Monday, TMC candidate Jahangir Khan secured interim protection from the Calcutta High Court from coercive police action till the elections are completed and the results are declared.
