Security agency sleuths have apprehended a youth under suspicious circumstances near the Army area in the border town of Jaisalmer, on charges of suspected espionage.

According to official reports received at the state headquarters here on Wednesday, the suspect, identified as Jivan Khan (25), was allegedly making calls to Pakistan-based telephone numbers.

During the search, several contact numbers reportedly belonging to Pakistani nationals were recovered from him.

He has since been handed over to the Joint Interrogation Committee (JIC) for questioning, official sources said.

Investigations revealed that the detained youth had earlier worked at a restaurant near the Army area, left the job, and rejoined the same establishment recently.

This is the fourth such case of suspected espionage reported since March this year. Those previously arrested include the manager of the DRDO Guest House at Pokaran Field Firing Range and a former personal assistant to an ex-minister.
