Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief and parliamentarian Amit Shah on Monday said surgical strike carried out against Pakistan was “historic moment” and that the world now sees seeing India from a different view.

Delivering his maiden speech in the upper house of parliament, Shah said: “Surgical strike was a historic moment and the world started seeing India from a different view.”

“They (world) realised that after America and Israel, India is the only country which can protect its soldiers and Army,” Shah said.

On the intervening night of September 28-29, the special commandos of Indian Army crossed the Line of Control (LoC) to hit the targets to the south of Pir Panjal range in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Shah further said that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre has ensured modernisation of the armed forces, which the Congress always neglected.

“Immediately after coming to power, the prime minister (Narendra Modi) began the process of military modernisation which the Congress always neglected,” Shah said.

The BJP chief further slammed the main opposition party and said that the BJP was still cleaning the mess left behind by the Congress government.

“When we came to power what did we get in legacy? A system that was ridden with problems which we are still trying to get rid of,” Shah said.
