The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the PIL filed by a Mumbai-based IT professional, seeking reopening of Mahatma Gandhi assassination case.

The apex court observed that there was no merit in reopening the case. I-T professional Dr Pankaj Kumudchandra Phadnis had filed the PIL in October 2017.

Additional Solicitor General Amarendra Sharan assisted the court as amicus curiae in the case.

In his petition, Dr Phadnis had asserted that Gandhi’s assassination case should be probed, as there was still a myth about the fourth bullet being fired by the convict.

On 6 March, a division bench, headed by Justice SA Bobde, had reserved its judgement after hearing in detail arguments and submissions from the petitioner and the amicus curiae.
