The Supreme Court of India Thursday invited online bid for hiring an agency for tackling the monkey menace at the residences of the justices of the apex court, including the premises of the court and the Supreme Court guest house, for a period of two years.

“Supreme Court of India, an apex Judicial Body under Constitution of India intends to invite online bids/ tenders through GeM Bid No. : GEM/2026/B/7389430 via GeM Portal, from open market Vendors/ Agencies for providing manpower as Monkey Chasers/ Handlers/ Repellers (Monkey Scarers) for driving away Monkeys from the Residential Bungalows of Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court of India including Supreme Court Guest House and Supreme Court Premises, for a period of Two years,” the bid said.

According to the bid notice the mandate would extend to nearly 35 to 40 bungalows located within an approximate radius of 10 km from the premises of the Supreme Court.

The bid also said, “The requirement of the manpower may increase or decrease as per the requirement during the contractual period.”

The bid document specifically excluded manual bids which would “…not be accepted under any circumstances.”

Also, any bids submitted via email or fax would not be entertained and no correspondence will be entertained in this matter.

“The bids are to be submitted online on GeM Portal…” the document added.

The apex court has been grappling with monkey menace for some time now. Last year in October, a troop of monkeys had invaded the Supreme Court corridor and wreaked havoc. A viral video of the incident showed a monkey tearing open a bag and eating the contents while advocates watched either in horror or amusement.
