Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar to be sworn in as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister today at 5 pm

Nationalist Congress Party MP Sunetra Pawar and Ajit pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar is set to take oath as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister today, marking a significant political moment for the party as well as the Pawar family. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai at 5:00 pm.

The decision has been taken within four days after Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash in Baramati on 28 January 2026. Meanwhile, preparations are underway at Lok Bhavan ahead of the oath-taking ceremony.

Also, posters paying tribute to the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar have been put up at the NCP state office.

NCP Spokesperson Rupali Patil Thombare confirmed that Sunetra Pawar will take the DCM oath today as the party leaders urged her to take the post. She said, “Ajit dada’s death was very shocking. He is not with us anymore. Sunetra Vahini (Sunetra Pawar) is grieving much more than all of us. She lost her husband all of a sudden. This is the fourth day since his death. We, the workers, have urged Vahini to forget her pain, and adopt Ajit Dada’s dreams and work style. For this, she has made a decision for today; she had to.”

On opposition questioing the timing of the ceremony, she adi, “Timing is very important in politics. People will talk. Those who are speaking for him today used to comment on him when he was alive.”

‘I have no information about it,’ says Sharad Pawar

In response to the questions related to the swearing-in ceremony of Sunetra Pawar as Deputy CM, NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar said that he had no information about it. He said that it must be her party’s decision He further added, “What I saw in the newspaper today: some names like Praful Patel and Sunil Tatakare who have taken the initiative to make some decisions. I had no discussion on this. I have no information about this…I am not even aware if it is happening.”
