The Delhi police on Thursday questioned a man identified as Vicky in connection to the massive CBSE question paper leak which has affected around 28 lakh students.

Reports say that Vicky is the prime suspect in the case in which the question papers of Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics were leaked on social media around half an hour before the exams on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old man reportedly runs a coaching centre in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar locality.

As the police continued with their investigations into the matter, many students and their parents came out in large numbers defending Vicky.

They claimed that the “goad-fearing” man cannot commit such a crime.

“These are frivolous allegations,” said a student, adding that “Vicky bhaiya” has been teaching for the last 22 years.

Others joined their voices in vociferously supporting Vicky claiming that he used to ask students not to resort to unfair means.

“He told us that success has no shortcuts,” said one student to a TV channel.

Parents of the students told the media that Vicky used to teach from morning till late at night and did not charge fees. He used to conduct havans and even fed them so that they could study properly.

They claimed that Vicky is being blamed to protect the real accused.

Following the leak, the CBSE announced retests in the two subjects leading to frustration among students and parents.

Many students gathered at Jantar Mantar demanding action against those guilty and protesting against the CBSE’s failure in checking malpractices such as these.

Demanding justice, the students alleged that almost all the question papers were leaked. Some of them said that the Board should either conduct exams in all the subjects again or not conduct retests at all.

Police have reportedly formed a SIT team to probe the matter. CBSE has registered a case with the Crime Branch.

In a press conference held on Thursday, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar claimed that the leaks happened half-an-hour before the examinations.

Javadekar said he felt sorry for the students who had been caused the trouble due to the leak and assured that those guilty would be arrested soon.

“This incident is unfortunate. We are also parents. I understand what the students are going through. Hence, those responsible will not be spared,” he said.
