“For the first time, there will be two MLAs of BJP representing the NDA and the people of Kerala. This will be the start of a new beginning for Kerala’s development,” said Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday as counting of votes for Kerala Assembly Elections 2026 is underway.

The saffron party was all set to open its account in Kerala with three of its candidates leading in their respective seats.

Chandrasekhar himself is leading in Nemom constituency, while B B Gopakumar was poised to win the Chathannoor seat. Another BJP candidate, V Muraleedharan, was ahead in Kazhakootam with a narrow margin of 265 votes.

While the BJP is far from forming a government or having any significant role to play in the formation of a new government, Chandrasekhar believes the party performed well in the elections.

“It is for the first time we are seeing the party being supported by people across the board. We saw the local body elections when the people of Thiruvananthapuram gave the NDA the mandate to govern the municipal corporation. In this election, there was a strong anti-incumbency against the CPM. We have put forth a vision of PM for development and opportunities for all,” he said.

The former Union Minister also expressed his gratitude to the people of Nemom constituency for giving him the opportunity to serve them.

“I am extremely happy, I am very proud and deeply grateful to all the workers of BJP-NDA who have made this win possible. I am deeply grateful to the people of Nemom for having given me an opportunity to serve them,” the Kerala BJP chief said.

According to the Election Commission of India, the Congress-led UDF has secured victory in 55 seats, with the alliance candidates leading in at least 44 more seats.

The LDF was ahead in 35 seats, including 21 victories. Others and the BJP were ahead in four and two seats, respectively.
