Sri Ravi Shankar, Mirwaiz stress dialogue, compassion for lasting peace in J-K

Renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Thursday called on Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his residence in Srinagar, as both leaders agreed that injustice and disempowerment lead to radicalisation that threatens peace.

They discussed the importance of peace, compassion, and inter-faith harmony in today’s world.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, visiting Kashmir after seven years, expressed happiness at being back in the Valley and lauded its spiritual and cultural heritage as a symbol of coexistence.

During the cordial meeting, both leaders agreed that sustained dialogue and mutual understanding are essential to promote peace and human dignity, office of Mirwaiz posted on X.

Mirwaiz welcomed him and reiterated that the institution of the Mirwaiz remains committed to peace and dialogue as the most humane and effective means of addressing issues and resolving differences.

Mirwaiz also appreciated Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s recent anti-drug outreach in the Valley.

Referring to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s upcoming visit to the Central Jail Srinagar, Mirwaiz stressed that a compassionate and humane approach must guide efforts for the release of political prisoners and youth, he urged the leader to play his role in this.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar yesterday met prominent citizens in Srinagar and discussed social initiatives and the future of youth in J&K.

A large gathering of about 20,000 youth took the oath to create a drug-free Kashmir at a function in Srinagar.

In a wisdom and meditation event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar, he spoke about Rishi Kashyap, after whom Kashmir was named, and the many disciples of knowledge that originated from the valley.
