UP bypolls: SP set to retain Mainpuri, RJD leading in Khatauli, BJP in Rampur

Samajwadi Party is set to retain the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh in the bypolls held due to the death of the party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

RLD candidate was leading in Khatauli assembly seat but in Rampur assembly seat BJP candidate has taken a convincing lead after trailing till 20 rounds of counting.

Mulayam’s daughter-in-law Dimple, who is the wife of SP president Akhilesh Yadav is leading by a record margin of around 2.40 lakh votes against her nearest BJP candidate Raghuraj Shakya in the counting so far.

In the 2019 Lok sabha polls Mulayam had won by around 94,000 votes.

Meanwhile, in a new political twist, Pragatsheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) led by Shivpal Singh  Yadav was merged with Samajwadi Party on Thursday.

Shivpal had parted with Akhilesh before 2017 assembly polls and had formed the PSPL. But in this bypolls, both uncle and nephew united for the Mainpuri LS bypolls.
