Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has charged that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is murdering democracy and is carrying out anti-constitutional and undemocratic actions.

“Stopping of the Samajwadi Party delegation traveling to Bareilly by police at the behest of the government is condemnable. The BJP government is resorting to dictatorship to hide its failures. With its authoritarian attitude, the government is attacking the very spirit of the Constitution,” he said here in a statement on Saturday.

He said a few days earlier, a delegation led by senior Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman was stopped.

“The repeated stoppage of the delegation traveling to Bareilly is a failure of the BJP government,” he said.

He said the Samajwadi Party delegation was to meet with the DIG and Commissioner of Bareilly to work towards restoring peace there.

“Surprisingly, the Bareilly District Magistrate, citing prohibitory orders, prevented the opposition leader and the Samajwadi Party delegation from traveling to Bareilly. The police also confined all members of the delegation. This is condemnable and shameful,” he said.

The SP president said, “The BJP government’s behavior is completely undemocratic and an abuse of power. Following the incident that occurred after Friday prayers on September 26, numerous houses and shops were bulldozed, with innocent people being arrested. By preventing the opposition from accurately assessing the situation there and meeting the families of the victims, it has been demonstrated that the BJP government is taking all these actions to conceal its misdeeds.”

He further said the BJP government must understand that it will achieve nothing by repressing the people of Bareilly.

“The public has become aware of the BJP’s misrule, plunder, and corruption. The oppressive and arrogant BJP government is sure to be wiped out in the 2027 elections. The days of this undemocratic, anti-people, and unjust BJP government are numbered,” he announced.
