In a significant meeting that underscores the strong cultural and historical bonds between India and Mauritius, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday called on Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, in New Delhi.
During their meeting, the two leaders discussed the trajectory of bilateral ties and deepening partnership between the two countries. Rahul Gandhi took to social media to share his thoughts on the meeting, saying, “Along with CPP Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, I had the pleasure of calling on H.E. Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius. We spoke about the deep and enduring friendship that binds our two nations and peoples.”
The meeting highlights India’s commitment to nurturing its historic and cultural links with Mauritius. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier hosted his Mauritian counterpart in Varanasi, a gesture that reflects the rich cultural heritage shared by the two nations. Ramgoolam’s state visit to India, which began on September 9, included visits to key cultural and economic hubs such as Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati.
The discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and strengthening partnerships between India and Mauritius.
The leaders also emphasized people-to-people connect and cooperation across sectors, highlighting the deep cultural links between the two nations.
