Accusing UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her son Congress chief Rahul Gandhi of not believing in democracy, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar on Tuesday slammed the Congress for not letting parliament work.

Talking to the media after the BJP’s Parliamentary Board meeting concluded, Kumar said: “It seems Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi don’t believe in democracy. They speak outside on democracy but don’t practice it in Parliament.”

“We request Congress and other parties to let the house function… Congress doesn’t have democracy in their genes,” he added.

The minister further said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to all MPs as he requested all the parties to let the Parliament function and discuss issues constructively.

Hitting back at the BJP, the Congress said that the central government was leaving no stone unturned to kill democracy in the country.

“They (BJP) are taking all steps to kill democracy and still giving lecturing to others that Congress doesn’t want any discussions (in parliament),” leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge said.

The proceedings of the Lok Sabha this morning were disrupted for the seventh consecutive day on Tuesday as various parties continued with their protests on several issues, including the PNB scam.

The House has been witnessing frequent disruptions since March 5, when the second leg of the Budget Session of Parliament began.
