Five policemen were killed near Achhabal in South Kashmir on Friday when a group of heavily armed terrorists ambushed the vehicle in which they were travelling and shot them at point blank. A constable injured in yesterday’s terror attack also succumbed to his wounds and as such the number of policemen killed has increased to six.

Police confirmed that among the killed was SHO of the Achhabal Feroze Ahmad, driver of the police vehicle and three constables who were deployed for protection of the minority Sikh clusters in the area.

Reports said that a group of terrorists travelling in two to three vehicles came from the opposite direction and indiscriminately fired at the police vehicle killing all five occupants including the SHO of the rank of inspector of police.

The attack came when the police vehicle reached Thajiwara and the terrorists surrounded it and fired with assault rifles killing all five policemen. The police did not get any opportunity to retaliate as they were taken by surprise.

The terrorists decamped with the rifles and ammunition that the police party was carrying.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the area that has been cordoned and a combing operation has been launched.

Terrorists had yesterday killed a policeman and seriously wounded another cop in separate attack. The wounded policeman succumbed to injuries this morning.

In their fresh strategy, terrorists have started targeting men of the state police. In the past, the ultras had been snatching rifles from state police personnel.
