Six people were killed on Saturday after a cargo ropeway cable snapped near the Pavagadh hill temple in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district, police said. The incident took place around 3 p.m.

Police and fire brigade teams are conducting rescue and relief operations at the site. The ropeway, which is used to transport goods, was carrying six people downhill at the time of the accident.

“Preliminary information suggests that near Tower No. 1, the cable of a compartment carrying six labourers snapped, causing the bogie to fall. All six labourers lost their lives,” said Gujarat Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel.
In late April 2025, a ropeway trolley broke down at the Maa Bamleshwari Devi temple in Dongargarh (Rajnandgaon district). The trolley malfunctioned and collapsed just above the base, injuring several high-profile passengers, including BJP State General Secretary Bharat Verma and former Home Minister Ramsevak Paikra. The incident triggered serious safety concerns and highlighted toward possible maintenance negligence
