All eight people, traveling in an SUV, were killed when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck near Kutlupur village in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh.
The car occupants included a jeweler, his wife, and their two sons. The family was returning from Bithoor after taking a bath in the holy Ganga when the accident occurred in the Deva police station area late on Monday night.
While six people died on the spot, two others, who were critically injured, succumbed in the hospital on Tuesday morning.
The accident was so horrific that the 14-foot car was reduced to half, and even the airbags didn’t open. The bodies of those sitting in the front were stuck to the seats. The body parts had to be removed by cutting open the front section. The condition of those sitting in the back was equally bad.
Police here said that the deceased were identified as Pradeep Rastogi (60), his wife Madhuri (55), their two sons Nitin (35) and Naimish (15), driver Shrikant Shukla (50), and Balaji Mishra (55). Two of the injured, Indra Kumar (50) and Vishnu (15), were rushed to Lucknow, where they died during treatment this morning.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief over the deaths of people in the accident.
