With the arrest of six drug peddlers, police in Odisha’s Bargarh district have busted a major drug trafficking racket, officials said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police squad successfully intercepted the traffickers, seizing a substantial haul of psychotropic substances. Along with the arrest, the vehicles used in the drug trade were also confiscated.
As many as 2598 vials of Pentazocine Lactate Injection (a controlled psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act) were recovered from the possession of the drug peddlers.
Investigation is underway to identify the source of the drugs, the supply chain, and possible links to larger interstate trafficking networks.
Superintendent of Police, Bargarh, Prahlad Sahai Meena, urged the public to assist in curbing the illegal drug trade, calling for confidential reporting of any relevant information to the nearest police station. He assured that the identities of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
