Bihar Police has suspended an official, who was part of a special investigation team (SIT), after a viral video allegedly showed him firing from an AK-47 rifle during the ‘Bihar Bandh’ protests in Siwan district on July 25.
As per reports, the police personnel has been identified as Abhishek Patel.
The action was taken amid tensions over the student protests linked to the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and other issues.
According to IANS, the police official was suspended on the directions of Bihar Police Headquarters after a video purportedly showing him firing the weapon during clashes with protesters went viral on social media.
The statewide shutdown over the weekend witnessed large-scale demonstrations by student organisations across several districts, with clashes reported between protesters and police at multiple locations.
The situation turned violent in Siwan as protesters and police confronted each other, leading to the use of force to disperse the crowd.

Meanwhile, police have intensified their action regarding the violence that occurred during student protests in Bhagalpur on July 25.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office has reportedly released a total of 155 photographs of suspected agitators involved in the incident and sought information regarding them from public. The police have appealed to the public to assist in identifying these individuals so that legal action can be taken against them.
Further, the condition of the three injured protesters, who are undergoing treatment at Jayprabha Medanta Hospital in Patna, is said to be stable. Among them is Md. Arif, 15, who works at a local shop. His family has claimed that he was returning home after closing the shop during the bandh when he was struck in the neck by a bullet during the unrest.
During surgery, doctors successfully removed the bullet and his condition is now reported to be stable.
