The Special Investigation Team (SIT) report into Vantara’s affairs has reaffirmed it’s commitment to the world class animal care and conservation, the Anant Ambani-led wildlife sanctuary said on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court ordered SIT has given Vantara a clean chit, highlighting its high standards in wildlife welfare, habitat management, and safety.
Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court accepted the SIT report and gave the sanctuarya clean chit on allegations over its operations.
The top court had ordered an SIT review to look at issues including acquisition of animals from India and abroad, particularly elephants; compliance with the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972; International Convention on Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES) obligations; standards of veterinary care and animal welfare; allegations of creating a vanity or private collection; misuse of water or carbon credits; and allegations of financial irregularities and money laundering.
After the court’s findings, Vantara issued a statement, saying: “The SIT’s report and the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order have made it clear that the doubts and allegations raised against Vantara’s animal welfare mission were without any basis. The validation of the truth by the distinguished and widely respected members of the SIT is not just a relief for everyone at Vantara but also a blessing, because it allows our work to speak for itself.”
The SIT confirmed that all animal acquisitions at Vantara were conducted in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Their investigation cleared Vantara of any wrongdoing, confirming that export and import permits were valid and issued lawfully.
“The Spix Macaws, for example, were loaned to GZRRC as part of the ACTP conservation breeding program, aimed at reintroducing the species to its natural range. The SIT also noted that GZRRC has engaged with Brazilian authorities to facilitate this program, which is still in its preliminary stage. Importantly, the investigation found no illegality in Vantara’s actions concerning international animal transfers, putting to rest prior allegations,” Vantara said in a release.
The SIT also found that the allegations of misuse of carbon credits, water resources, or financial impropriety at Vantara were baseless.
The SIT also pointed out that the accusations against statutory authorities, the court-appointed committee, and the courts were baseless.
Vantara has faced judicial review several times, and these claims have always been dismissed. Continuing such speculative complaints would be unfair and a misuse of the legal process.
These findings and certifications underscore Vantara’s unwavering commitment to animal welfare, scientific conservation, and ethical practices.
The wildlife sanctuary stated that the independent body Global Human Society (GHS) also conducted a thorough site inspection and audit further validating Vantara’s high standards.
It was awarded the ‘Global Humane Certified Seal of Approval’, a testament to its exemplary care and conservation practices.
“Backed by the visionary leadership of Anant Ambani and a team of dedicated experts, Vantara continues to set a global benchmark in wildlife care and rehabilitation, ensuring a safe and thriving environment for all its residents,” it added.
