Amid protests and reservation in the Opposition Congress, the exercise of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was initiated in Rajasthan on Tuesday that will conclude on February 7, 2026.

The State Chief Electoral Officer Navin Mahajan shared the detailed timeline of the statewide task and the administrative preparedness.

SIR Phase-2 is being launched in 12 states, including Rajasthan, he said.

Mahajan informed that the training of the designated staff – teams and the printing of the elector enumeration forms began on Tuesday and it will conclude on November 3, 2025.

From November 4 to December 4, 2025, the BLOs will go door to door in their respective areas to distribute and collect duly filled, enumeration forms. On the basis of this drill, the draft electoral rolls would be published on December 9, 2025.

The objections and claims for deletion, addition or amendment in the entries in electoral rolls will be filed, heard and accepted between December 9 and January 8, 2026.

The period between December 9, 2025 and January 31, 2026 will be Notice – Phase during which hearing and attestation of claim-objection will be done and publication of final electoral rolls will be on February 7, a CEO release stated.

As per the current electors rolls 2025, the state has 5,48,84,827 voters, and 52469 BLOs will conduct enumeration for them. Of the total voters, 2.61 crore voters are in the age group of over 40-years. For 77 percent of these 2.61 crore electors, voter drill for mapping has already been done.

Mapping drill for voters below the age of 40 years is in progress.

Divisional commissioners, District Electoral Officers, Elector Registration Officers have also been duly updated with essential briefs as per the Election Commission of India’s guidelines, Mahajan said.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has opposed the exercise on the grounds that the hearing in petitions against the exercise was still on in the Supreme Court.

In a post on his ‘X’ handle last night, Gehlot stated: “When the hearing against this SIR exercise has still been continuing in the apex court, the process should not have further extended in 12 states of the country. Earlier, the SIR drill was undertaken 20 years ago, but, nobody protested against it, no one raised objections. However, this time the election commission has created such an atmosphere that people have doubts, they do fear that their right to vote will be snatched away.”
