A local court in Sikar on Saturday acquitted local Lok Sabha member Amararam and 19 others in a 2019 case involving an altercation with the police during a demonstration at the District Collectorate.
The Sikar Additional District Judge (No. 1) acquitted CPM MP Amararam, former party MLAs Balwan Punia and Pema Ram, and others of charges related to an altercation and heated exchange with police personnel.
These Communist leaders were present in 2019 to participate in a demonstration organised by the Student Federation of India (SFI) in front of the Sikar District Collectorate.
The stir caused a traffic jam, which led to verbal clashes between the protesters and police personnel. The MP, two former MLAs, and others were charged with confronting the police and using abusive language.
Later, outside the court, MP Amararam said that the case was fabricated to suppress their voice. “We were holding a demonstration to raise our voice against the irregularities committed by officials during the student union election,” he said.
“We are happy that the court delivered justice. All our colleagues have been exonerated”, he added.
