As a mark of respect to the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali
Hosseini Khamenei, thousands of Shia Muslims will observe a silent
Eid, scheduled later this week, in Madhya Pradesh.
The Iranian government had confirmed that Ali Khamenei was killed on
28 February at the beginning of the ongoing war between US-Israel and
Iran in West Asia in bombings carried out at Tehran by USA and Israel.
According to All India Shia Samaj state president Iftikhar Ali,
popularly known as Jaani Pahalwaan, the Shias in MP would not wear new
clothes or celebrate Eid this year. “We are saddened by Khamenei’s
death. We will only offer namaz. It is going to be a silent Eid for
us,” said the Shia cleric belonging to Burhanpur in MP.
He, nonetheless, noted that the community will not hold any protests
on Eid and will observe the occasion peacefully.
More than 4000 Shia families in Madhya Pradesh are largely
concentrated in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, Vidisha, Ujjain, Burhanpur,
Itarsi, and Jaora cities.
