The rain and floods are continuing to create havoc in Uttar Pradesh, crippling normal lives.
A report from Shahjahanpur said on Sunday that the floodwater of the Garra river has filled up the campus of the Government Medical College.
The medical college was forced to close, and the patients were shifted to Bhawalkhera CHC. Two patients have been referred to Lucknow, while some patients have been admitted to a private nursing home.
Sources said Medical equipment and mattresses are kept folded on the beds so that if water enters the ward, there is not much damage. The Delhi-Lucknow highway in Shahjahanpur was also submerged in floodwater.
In Agra, flood waters of the Yamuna have reached the boundary wall of the Taj Mahal, while several low-lying areas were submerged.
The situation in Mathura has worsened after water was released from Hathnikund Barrage. Yamuna water has entered the city. On Saturday, an ashram was filled with water up to the neck. Police rescued the devotees.
Report from Mathura said the Yamuna is flowing 1.25 meters above the danger mark. The water has now reached residential areas, roads, and Parikrama Marg. The Parikrama Marg of Vrindavan is completely submerged. The connectivity from Vishram Ghat to Bengali Ghat has been snapped.
In Mathura, 26 villages along with a population of about 7000 are affected by the floods. In Vrindavan, 70 per cent of the urban area is submerged. At many places, the flow is so fast that even walking has become risky. On the other hand, the water level of the Ganga-Yamuna rivers is rising again in Prayagraj. Lalitpur’s Matatila dam suddenly overflowed, and its 20 gates have been opened.
In Pilibhit, the flood situation has threatened 62 villages in five tehsils. DM Gyanendra Singh himself is monitoring the flood from the control room.
