The investigation into an alleged prostitution racket uncovered at a hotel in Anandpur Sahib earlier this year has taken a political turn, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) summoning former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa for questioning.

According to official directions issued from the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Ropar, Sandoa has been asked to appear before the SIT on June 22 at 11 a.m. The summons is part of an ongoing investigation into the case registered following a police raid conducted in February this year.

The case dates back to February 17, when Punjab Police carried out a raid at a hotel in Anandpur Sahib and claimed to have uncovered an organised sex trafficking operation. Following the action, an FIR was registered, and a detailed probe was initiated to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged racket and identify all those connected to it.

Police sources said the SIT, constituted to investigate the case, has been examining various leads and statements gathered during the course of the probe. As part of these efforts, investigators have decided to question the former legislator regarding certain inputs that emerged during the investigation.

Officials have not disclosed the specific nature of the information linking Sandoa to the inquiry and have refrained from commenting on his alleged role. However, the summons indicates that investigators consider his statement necessary for advancing the probe.

As per the directions issued to the police department, local authorities have been asked to ensure service of the notice and provide the SIT with all relevant case records. The Station House Officer (SHO) of Anandpur Sahib police station has also been instructed to appear before the investigation team with the complete case file and related documents during the hearing.

The questioning is expected to form part of the SIT’s effort to establish the broader circumstances surrounding the alleged racket and verify information collected during the investigation. Authorities maintain that the inquiry remains ongoing and that all aspects of the case are being examined.

Reacting to the development, Sandoa dismissed the allegations and described the action as politically motivated. The former MLA alleged that he was being targeted because of his criticism of alleged corruption and irregularities in the government.

He claimed that state agencies were being misused to exert pressure on political opponents but asserted that he had nothing to hide. Sandoa said he would appear before the SIT on the scheduled date and cooperate fully with the investigation.

The case continues to draw attention in Punjab due to its high-profile nature and the involvement of a former legislator, even as investigators seek to determine whether any wider network or influential individuals were connected to the alleged operation.
