Ruling out any possibility of a political reconciliation with the Congress in future, senior DMK leader RS Bharathi on Sunday, June 7, said the two political outfits had completely parted ways and added that his party cadre would never accept it to be back in the alliance.

While talking to mediapersons in Pudukkottai, Bharathi said DMK and Congress do not have any political relationship now and even dismissed the speculations about a future reunion, IANS reported.

Further, he asserted that their separation was final, arguing that the DMK grassroots workers would strongly oppose any attempt to restore ties, irrespective of any decisions taken at the leadership level.

His comments came in response to recent criticism from Congress leaders over DMK’s performance and alliance politics.

Taking a jibe at Congress leader Manickam Tagore, Bharathi said they should first examine their own electoral standing before commenting on other parties.

On the upcoming local body polls, the former Rajya Sabha member has expressed confidence in his party’s organisational strength.

“In local body elections, voters choose candidates based on their individual merit and public service. If our opponents are confident of their strength, let them win even a single mayoral post,” he said.

He even slammed the growing trend of political defections and said that the state was witnessing the emergence of an “Aya Ram Gaya Ram” culture – a reference to politicians changing parties for personal gain.

He stated that leaders switching allegiances in pursuit of positions and power rarely enjoy long-term political success.
