Senior BJP leader and BJP National Council Member Sanjay Tandon today welcomed the Central Government’s approval of Rs 1,463.95 crore for the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield spur to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in Chandigarh and the surrounding tricity region.

Describing it as a special gift for residents of Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and nearby areas, Tandon said the project would provide major relief to daily commuters and significantly improve regional connectivity.

The six-lane greenfield spur will connect the Ambala–Chandigarh stretch of National Highway-205A with the Zirakpur bypass, helping decongest key routes and ensuring smoother and faster movement of traffic across the region.

Tandon said the tricity has witnessed rapid growth in recent years, leading to a sharp increase in traffic volume. This project, he said, will not only reduce congestion but also make travel safer, faster and more efficient for thousands of commuters.

He added that improved road infrastructure would further strengthen the region’s position as an important administrative, educational and commercial hub, while also supporting economic activity and development in surrounding areas.

“The approval of this important highway project once again demonstrates the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has consistently prioritised infrastructure development to improve urban ease of living and drive India’s growth,” Tandon said.

The BJP leader, who also expressed his gratitude to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for prioritising infrastructure development, the project would significantly improve the quality of life of residents by making daily commuting safer, faster and more efficient.
