A Hisar court in Haryana on Thursday held self-styled godman Rampal guilty in two cases of murder.

The quantum of punishment will be announced on October 16 and 17.

Ahead of the court’s decision, the police had imposed Section 144 in Hisar to prevent disruption of law and order.

According to media reports, 1,300 police officers from Hisar and 700 from other districts have been deployed for security measures.

The first case, in which Rampal has been found guilty, relates to the death of a woman at Rampal’s Satlok Ashram, spread over 12-acres of land near Barwala town of Hisar district. The second murder case is about the death of four women and a child near the same ashram during clashes between his supporters and security forces when the police had come to arrest Rampal in November 2014 following orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The godman was arrested November 19, 20142014 after two-week long stand-off between his followers and the police. He was arrested on charges of murder, attempt to murder, conspiracy, holding illegal weapons and abetting suicide.
