A woman from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday tried to immolate herself near the chief minister’s residence here as she claimed police inaction over her complaint of financial fraud.

She was, however, prevented from harming herself by the police.

The woman, identified as Roli Devi, arrived near the high-security area of Gautampalli Monday morning. She was reportedly carrying a inflammable substance and intended to stage a protest by threatening to harm herself.

Police deployed in the area, including members of a rapid response team, intervened immediately and prevented the situation from escalating.

Devi alleged that she was cheated of Rs 60 lakh by a man named Vicky Mishra, who had promised to help her purchase a house.

Despite repeated complaints to the Hardoi police, she claims no substantial action has been taken so far. Frustrated with the lack of progress, she reportedly came to Lucknow to draw attention to her plight.

Authorities on the scene acted promptly and ensured her safety. She has since been taken for medical evaluation and is being counseled. Senior officials confirmed that her statements are being recorded, and the matter is being re-examined.

A senior police spokesperson said, “We are taking the woman’s concerns seriously. The relevant case details are being looked into, and further action will follow as per the law.”
