Two militants were neutralised early in the morning on Saturday in an encounter with security forces in Jammu-Kashmir.

Personnel from the Indian Army, the CRPF and J-K police engaged militants in the Dooru of Anantnag late on Friday evening following intelligence inputs regarding their presence in the area.

Both militants, which reports suggest could be locals, were surrounded at Shistergam village. A gunfight ensued which lasted through the night.

The operation was swift and there is no report of collateral damage or injuries to civilians.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered. Security forces are now combing the area.

Efforts to indentify the terrorists are on.

On 21 March, three Army personnel and two J-K policemen attained martyrdom in an encounter in Kupwara’s Halmatpora. Security forces killed four terrorists in the encounter.

The gunfight erupted when the terrorists, who were hiding in the forest, fired at a security force party comprising personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles and the J-K police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) and were aided by the Army’s Para special forces.

On March 17, three terrorists had been killed in Balhama Khunmoo area after a failed bid to snatch an assault rifle from the personal security officer (PSO) of a BJP leader.
