Security beefed up for Dalai Lama’s arrival in Ladakh

Security in Ladakh has been tightened ahead of the arrival of the Dalai Lama who is reaching Leh on Saturday on a month-long visit.

After taking rest for a few days, the Buddhist spiritual leader is scheduled to deliver sermons at various places in the Union Territory (UT) and meet Lamas and other people.

Z+ security has been positioned in Ladakh for the Tibetan leader. Meticulous crowd management strategy has been formulated for the route from the IAF station to the abode of the Dalai Lama where his cavalcade will pass after his arrival.

The arrangements have been made to accord him a grand reception on his arrival with people lining up along the entire route to greet him on.

President of the youth wing of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Jigmet Rafstan, has urged the locals to come out in traditional attire to receive His Holiness. Tourists are also expected to greet the Dalai Lama on his arrival.

Security has been beefed up at the Jivetsal at Choglamsar near Leh, the venue for teachings and discourses by the Dalai Lama. The Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Mohammad and Senior Superintendent of Police Shruti Arora visited Jivetsal to review the ongoing preparations ahead of Dalai Lama’s visit to Leh.

DC Leh reviewed and inspected all the preparations at the residence of the Dalai Lama and the teaching area. He also inspected and discussed the installation of CCTV cameras in different areas for public safety and security.

He further examined different parking sites in the area, checking for space availability and ways to make the areas more organized for devotees and visitors. He also discussed ways to improve traffic flow in the area during the teachings.

DC Leh also spoke about the Administration’s commitment to creating safe and hygienic spaces for the public.

Chief secretary of Ladakh, Pawan Kotwal, on Thursday, chaired a meeting in Leh to review arrangements for the visit of the Dalai Lama. The meeting focused primarily on ensuring foolproof security and logistical preparedness for his visit.
